Petrology and Geochemistry of Magmatic Rocks associated with Red Sea Rifting

Petrology and Geochemistry of Magmatic Rocks associated with Red Sea Rifting

Internship Description

In this project the student will study different igneous rocks that are associated with the rifting of the Arabian-Nubian plates that resulted in the formation of the Red Sea. The project involves fieldwork in Saudi Arabia to collect samples and to understand the structural setting of the volcanics, followed by petrological descriptions and geochemical analyses using e.g. XRF and EPMA. The student will process the data and use it to answer questions regarding the origin and formation of these volcanics.
